3rd meeting

Challenge yourself

After this session, for two days in school, you are going to practice/implement/actualize your top two values. You have the options to practice one or both values in a day. On your journal, write your reflections (for day one and day two) separately using the outline below. Hope you will enjoy and learn meaningfully from this challenge.

** FAITH AND FAMILY

Outline

- the date/time of experience

**September 18 and 19, 2009
**7:00 am(Sept. 18)-09:00pm(Sept.19)

- the values you have practiced

**My personal values FAITH and FAMILY

- the story/experience

**When I read about these journal, I apply it and I do it. First faith, on the past few days, I didn't have time to pray to God, I mean, every night before I sleep I always pray to Him but unfortunately, this past few days I've became lazy to do it then I realized my mistake, I must not forget Him because His the one who gave life to me, His our ruler, His our protector, so up to now, every night I always pray to Him before I sleep, I always thank Him and I always say sorry for all of my sin. Then my family, I realized that we don't have time for each other because we are all busy in work, in studies, etc. So that Friday night (Sept. 18) after I went to school to enroll, we have the time to bond, we actually go to a resort to swim and have fun and also to celebrate my brother's birthday, and then that time, I realized that even all of us are busy, we must have time with each other and have time to relax and have fun.

(details: people, location, event, situations, ways the values have been practiced and the reactions of the involved people)

- your feelings during the experience

**For me it's good, and it's the right thing to do and I'm so happy that I can do it the same as I does it before, I mean because of these journal, I tried to understand and realized my mistakes. And I'm so thankful because it helps me a lot.

- the learning from your experience

**Never forget your personal values and besides it must be your priority. Being so lazy is not helpful and not good, very much not. Try to do your best in doing things and do not forget God and also your family who really loves you.

1st meeting

**************************************************************************************

1. In the first few days you've spent in MCL, how would you compare your high school life to what you envisioned college life to be?

Answer:
  • In my first few days I've spent in MCL I would compare my high school life to what I envisioned college life to be as really different. Because during my high school days I know all my classmates and that we are not that close but we are all friends. We all know our attitudes and that we don't need to cope up with each other and that I'm still dependent with my mom, it's just, I know that someday I need to be independent, but during high school, I don't need to be that. But now that I'm in college, everything is different, everything is changed, I need to cope up with new friends and I need to understand their attitude and I need to learn how to be independent.

2. What is the importance of Values Education?

Answer:

  • Values Education is important in our daily lives.
  • In it we know how to respect others,
  • how to be nice and kind,
  • to have faith in God,
  • to obey our parents and others who is older than us,
  • to think what's right and wrong,
  • to have our own mind in doing good decisions,
  • to love others even if they are our enemies,
  • to try to forgive and forget,
  • to do everything what we think is good and right,
  • and many others.

2nd meeting

PERSONAL VALUES CHECK LIST (ASSIGNMENT)

10 VALUES

  1. Faith
  2. Family
  3. Friendship
  4. Community
  5. Unity
  6. Cleanliness; orderliness
  7. Knowledge
  8. Discipline
  9. Honesty
  10. Trust

4th meeting

Self Evaluation

Do this in your journal.

1. Looking back at the list of your positive characteristics and qualities, what do you feel and realize about it?

Answer:
*I realized that in my heart, I know what I listed there in the paper is true, but at the same time I felt doubt of what I wrote about myself because I don't know if the people around me also think the same way as I do. Though, I know that I must know myself first than to listen to what the other thinks about me. And besides, they must respect me because I respected them though I don't really know them.

2. The Golden Rule says “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.”
a. Given the following situations, how would you like to be treated by your teachers and schoolmates:

- when you have given wrong answers to the questions during recitation,

* They must respect me, anyway there is no perfect in these world, everybody commits mistakes, and trust me, I will do the same thing to them if ever it happens to them.

- when you are expressing your opinion during class or group discussion;

* I want them to listen to what I'm saying because it's a group discussion and that I'm saying my own opinion and if it's their turn to express their own opinion in our group discussion, probably I would listen to them.

- when you are giving suggestions during group work or presentation;

* I want them to respect suggestions, I mean I'm giving it for the sake of our group presentation. We cannot say, maybe it can help us in making our group presentation beautiful, I don't need them all to understand it very much. I just want them to think of it as well as respect it.

- when you commit mistake;

* As I've said earlier nobody is perfect, we all know that, we'll if I commit mistake/s, I'm sorry, I'm just a human and I'm not perfect and I need them to understand it, I don't need them to understand why do I do this mistake, why do I do that mistake, I just need them to understand that like them, I am just created by our God, I don't created myself and like them I commit mistakes, that's what I want them to understand and they can hope that I will understand them if they commit mistake/s.

- when you don’t like doing what they ask you to do and

* I just want them to realize that I have my own mind, my own likes and dislikes and that like them, I also have feelings, I can be hurt, I can be neglected, but if they and I know that it's the right thing for me to do and that it's for the sake of my own happiness, why not, I mean I can give it a try but I just want them to realize that nobody wants to be hold by someone, to be dictated by someone, we have our own mind to think what is the best for us and I'm sure, they also don't want somebody to control them.

- when they want to give you their comments or suggestions?

* Well, I will respect their comments and suggestions, anyway they've given a chance to give my own opinions, so as what they did, I will listen to them and I will try to understand them but I just want their comments and suggestions not so bad, I mean try respect me even just a little bit.

b. Considering the given ideas on how to treat others with respect, what can you commit to yourself in terms dealing with the MCL community: teachers, students, employees, security, maintenance/janitors and canteen personnel?

* Oh, they can hope that I would respect them. I won't and never will disrespect them, because aside from being (some of them) older than me is that they are also a person like me. They need and deserve to be respect and obey (in some instances) by others, and that's what I would do, and besides I know they are respecting me too, so I would do the same thing to them. And the golden rule is always on my mind "Do not do unto others as you won't others do unto you".

7th meeting

Self -evaluation:

Review the results of your personal health assessment and write your realizations and plans about your health in your journal.

  • I had review it and I've seen that I have no problems with my health. It's just normal, although I have a problem with my menstruation because I don't actually have a monthly period, I mean I don't have a normal menstruation. But it's okay because I think I just inherent this to my mom and I got by he check-up and the doctor said it's normal to the girls whose age is like mine, because she said that my ovary is not that yet ripe that's why we cannot force it to blood. And that she cannot recommend me some medicines to take up because I'm too young and that like I've said it's normal. And that bleeding to much is really bad. And she also told us to come back to her if I will already be 18 or 19 years of age and that my condition is still like that because that will be the time that I would take my medication. So we planned to go back to the hospital after 2 years if my menstruation is still not normal.

Part 2 of the 6th meeting

  • The most striking scene in the movie "An Inconvenient Truth"

Answer:

When Al Gore shows us a snowy Kilimanjaro twenty years ago and now it's mountain is so dusty. He demonstrated to us the effects of Global Warming that we cannot explain through words. And he also shows us the points that the ice caps are melting and that soon our wold will be just all water. And some of the Island in the Antarctica that were already problem areas. And also he pointed out that the sea level worldwide could easily rise twenty feet or more. And he shows the effects of the Global Warming to our surroundings, as well as our planet Earth.

  • My feelings and emotions while watching the movie

Answer:

I felt really scared and I don't know what to do. I'm so scared to think that sooner or later our world will be vanished or that it will be worst, I don't know what to do, I don't know where are we going if that will happen. And at the same time I felt so lonely to think that our world, my family will be lost from me, because ever since even if I think about what is going to happen in the future, I'll always erased to my mind that worst ever thinking, because even if someone would think about it, he will be scared too. I mean right now for me is okay, rather than losing it.

  • My realization after watching the movie

Answer:

I realize that our world is really affected by the Global Warming and if we do nothing to stop the it, our world would be as worst as ever, that we cannot do anything anymore to protect it because were too late. But now, we still have a chance, it's not too late and it will never be, as long as we care about our planet. We can still protect it in some simple ways.

  • The specific actions I can commit to take care of the environment

Answer:

  1. I can do simple things like throwing the trash at the trash can, not everywhere.
  2. I could also help in planting the trees.
  3. I would not burn some plastics or rubber because I know it can harm our environment and that it is also one of the causes why our ozone layer is becoming thick.
  4. I will also not to do or to try smoking because it can cause air pollution and I really really know that it's bad for my health.
  5. I will also use some appliances that doesn't have any CFC's.
  6. Ask someone to don't burn our forest or cut the trees.
  7. Also ask someone to don't use dynamite for fishing or any chemicals.
  8. Moreover students like me or some people can ask some factories to not throw some chemicals to the sea.

10th meeting

Journal Writing

1. Cite one experience wherein you have experienced negative peer pressure.
2. How did you react to it? Why?
3. How did you feel about your reaction/decision?
4. What have you learned/realized from your experience?

ANSWER:

It's when I was in second year, actually I'm going to turned third year because it's our vacation, my cousin pressured me to answer the guy whose courting me, and the guy was the friend of his boyfriend, and I do what she said. But then I realized that it's the right for me to have a boyfriend because I'm too young and besides the guy and I both know that it's just a game, we must not take it seriously and because he's doing the same, he's not taking our relationship seriously in fact he's dating another girl and he's getting up another girlfriend. So we end our relationship and also our communication. And it's just normal because, it doesn't feels like I have a boyfriend that time. But then I felt like I just waste my time in entertaining that kind of guy and that I need to lie to my mom just because of him. But when I broke up with him, I'm felt like I'm still the same girl who doesn't committed and I realized that what I did is right and if you really feel that is not the time for you to be committed then don't do it, it's just as simple as that, you're just the one whose making it complicated. Be true to yourself and that don't let anyone to decide for you. You are the one whose respnsible for yourself. And always remember that "no one can ever hurt you without your consent."

2. What are your responsibilities
a) at home,
b) in school

A responsible person is the one whose doing his assignments or projects on time, the one whom you will not going to tell what is his going to do but instead he will do it as his own, not asking if he must do that or not. The one who is independent enough to admit his own mistake and the one who can stand on his own even though he really needs his family.

2. a. At home
  • My responsibility in our home is doing the household chores as being the eldest daughter, like cleaning the house, taking care of my baby brother, and studying my lessons while I'm not doing anything.

b. In school

  • My responsibilities in school is that I need to study very hard for me to pass my courses, pass my assignments and projects on time and review my lessons. I also need to interact to with my professors and classmates. To cooperate to some group activities and many more.

c. In our community

  • My responsibility is to give and share to the people around my community, to interact with them and to cooperate and participate with some organizations that my community is initiating. c. Admit mistaked.
d. Return excess change.
e. Avoid cheating

b. Were you able to do the challenge? How do you feel about it?
c. What have you realized/learned from your experience?

ANSWER:

a. Return recovered things, the money of my sister.
b. Yes, I do. Nothing. It just normal because I'm not the kind of person whose going to get the money of other people because I know it's bad and besides, she's my sister, my own blood, why would I do such a thing to her like that. And being honest is really a giant word if I would tell it to myself, but being kinda one is so great, because you don't need to hide anything to anyone and that you are being true to yourself. And it's really great.
c. I realized like what I've said earlier in letter b. being honest is really a giant word, but if you will do this, I mean if you will be honest to yourself, moreover to others as well, you will have a feeling of contentedness, satisfaction and you will be great because being honest is an example of being a good person.

c. I have learned that if you really want to get a high score, you must do your best and study hard for you to win it, because if you don't whatever you do, you cannot get a high score nd you cannot succeed in it. Being win to the challenge is very fulfilling and you will not have a feeling of doubts.

The most challenging thing I have ever accomplished

The Most Challenging Thing I have ever Accomplished

The most challenging thing I have ever accomplished is when I was in fourth year joining the Field Demo dancers club and to be graduated in highschool and to be in college. At the field demo, at first I don't know what are we going to do, if I'm going to have self-confidence dancing in front of many people with my groups, knowing that I have stage fright. But then when we won all of that feelings have vanished. We worked hard for it. We worked for us to win. And yet, it happened. And thanks to that co-curricular activity. It helps me to enter the top 10, although I did not intended to do so, but I'm thankful anyway. I'm very very glad to join them, at least now I know that even I have a stage fright, I can deliver it very well. Then being graduated in highschool is a lot for me. Because it means that I need to tackle another journey in my life, and that is college. At first when I'm still in fourth year highschool, I always think what would be my life in college and that time I don't want the 4th year highschool to be end because I'm so afraid to enter college life. But then, here I am, being graduated and now, the 1st term in college is also going to end. For me it's the most challenging thing that I have ever accomplished now in my life. And we'll going to see, in many years that would come, I will accomplished a new challenge that will going to happen to me.

VE011- Assignment #3

  • If you will have one outstanding virtue, what would you want it to be? Why?
Answer:

  • Knowledge in being honest with God. For me, it's the best and outstanding virtue in life. Because the first building block of a deeper friendship with God is complete honesty---about your faults and your feelings. God doesn't expect you to be perfect, but he does not insist on complete honesty.

Assignment in VE011

1. How was your first week of stay at MCL?

Answer:

>It's great! I met new friends, I got the time to know them better, I got bond with them when I'm at the school. Actually right now, I enjoyed going to school because of them. I had a great time to be with them, right now, I can be myself when I'm with them, the real me, "makulit", "palabiro", but there are times when I need to be serious like for example in my studies. And it's just the first week what more the other week that were going to come. In my courses, I learned a lot and I was about to understand it everyday when were going to have a lecture. And I can say, my first week at MCL was great and awesome.

2. Describe your professors. What are traits do you find positive in each one?

Answer:

>They were strict (some of them) yet they're nice sometimes, some of them were really nice and actually all of them can be easily approached.
>Traits that I find positive about them, as I've said earlier some of them were really strict but I know that they're just like that because they just want us to learn more about the things about us, they just want us to be responsible and independent enough to stand on our own, and I think that the positive traits they have.
>Second, they're nice and they had time to have fun with their students.
>Last, they can easily approached by the students, for example in their lesson, the students can ask and tell them the things they don't understand and the professors with be glad and patient to answer all their question.

3. Describe your blockmates/section. What do you think are the strengths and weaknesses of your section?

Answer:

>Our blockmates were really nice and actually the're friendly, even though sometimes they're really naughty and absolutely noisy.
>The strengths of our section, we are all can be friends and we can understand each other's feeling. and I know that the time will come that we're all going to be really really close and nobody in our section will going to be alone anymore.
>On the other hand, the weaknesses of our section sometimes some of us were really really noisy that the rest of us cannot concentrate with our professor and some of us became naughty (some of the times).

4. How do you find your courses? Which ones do you think are easy and which ones do you think are a little bit challenging? Why?

Answer:

>How do I find my courses? I find it very interesting that in any course you would take you're actually going to ask yourself "Is this course will going to be enjoyable or desaster?", " Am I going to learn more here?", "Am I going to pass this course?" It's just that, you want to know if you are really truly applicable for the program that you're taking right now.
>I think the course that is easy for me is Math, I don't know, I just like Math and I think that it's the course that I can easily understand (maybe now, I don't know in the coming days??).
>The courses that are really challenging for me are I.T and Drawing. Because honestly, I'm not onto computers, I find it hard to understand, I don't know, I'm just not really good at it. In the Drawing, I really had a hard time to draw something and at the same time, at that subject I've become nervous.

5. Do you have any adjustment you feel you are going through or must go through? What are they? Cite examples in terms in your academics, emotions, and social environment.

Answer:

>Yes. In academic, I need to have a self-confidence for my own sake to show to people that I can do what is really assigned me to do. Emotions, I'm really sensitive, that I easily cry when I can't really take or I can't really handle the emotions inside of me. Social environment, I need to be socialized with the people around me, 'cause I'm really a "shy-type" person.
